Both the men’s and women’s track teams were participants in two meets last weekend, the Stanford Invitational and The San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

At Stanford, freshman Hugh Nicklason ran to victory in the 800M heat and ran the fourth best time of the meet and third best time for any USF runner ever in the 1500M with a time of 3:45.04. Nicklason’s time of 1:50.19 in the 800M matched the school record that he himself set just a few weeks ago. Junior Edward Shepard finished close behind Nicklason with a time of 3:47.51, good enough for fourth best all time by any USF runner. Also in Stanford, senior Matt Leach ran the 10,000M and posted the second best time ever by a USF student and junior Alex short was close behind setting the third best ever by a USF student. Leach and Short ran times of 29:14.36 and 29:19.55 respectively.

The women’s team was setting new records of their own at both Stanford and San Francisco State. Freshman Weronika Pyzek and senior Kate Jamboretz competed and placed fifth and twelfth overall in the 5000M. Pyzek’s time of 16:25.30 was good for second all-time in USF history. Junior Charlotte Taylor ran the 10000M with a time of 33:25.09, good for fifth out of 37 participants and second all-time in USF’s history books. Senior Eleni Fkarias broke her previous school record mark in the 400M hurdles at San Francisco State with a time of 1:03.94.

Next up for both teams is a competition in Tempe, AZ in the Sun Angel Classic on April 8th and 9th.
