Cafe Au Lait By The Bay

Let’s be honest — as students we have caffeine flowing through our veins. We also love brainstorming, instagramming, and studying at cute coffee shops that have both good flavor and character. Here’s a list of the best new and not-so-new coffee shops in San Francisco.

Blue Bottle
Various Locations
On your way through the Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building, be sure to treat yourself to some Blue Bottle Coffee. You can actually find Blue Bottle in various spots throughout the city, from a little alleyway in Hayes Valley to Mint Plaza. Our recommendation would be to try the New Orleans iced coffee.

The Front
150 Mississippi St
A new and noteworthy coffee shop would be The Front in Potrero Hill. This has quickly turned into the hangout spot for many aspiring techies. Try the cold brew that comes in a mason jar, or keep it simple with a cappuccino that will give you a burst of energy. The Front is definitely recommended for study sessions or just to hangout with friends.

The Mill
736 Divisadero St
Grab your Four Barrel coffee to-go and a piece of their locally famous toast (yes, toast!). The Mill is the perfect place for people watching as you get a nice dose of sunshine through the wide, beautiful windows. Sit outside and read a book or take a stroll through Alamo Square.

The Ritual
432B Octavia St
I love The Ritual a latte (LOL). The lattes at The Ritual are amazing. The outdoor seating patio is my favorite for breakfast on the weekends and I often find myself studying here for finals. The inside is quiet and cozy, making it the perfect study spot.

Mr. Holmes Bakehouse
1042 Larkin St
A Cruffin with my coffee, please! Mr. Holmes Bakehouse is going to be your new favorite go-to spot for pastries and coffee en route to Union Square. The small Bakehouse offers great Cruffins (Croissant Muffins), cream-filled donuts, double baked croissants, and more.

Jane on Fillmore
2123 Fillmore St
Jane on Fillmore Street is a great lunch spot as well as a coffee shop. The cafe’s pastry and cookie selections include gluten-free options. I recommend their Americana with a gluten-free white chocolate chip macadamia cookie while you find a spot to study upstairs.

Philz Coffee
Various Locations
Mint Mojito’s are my go-to order at Philz, with a double shot of espresso, of course. Their Mint mojito iced coffee is famous; it has drawn students from Santa Clara and Berkeley to the city just to try the drink.
