In honor of National Coming Out Day, on Oct. 11, we’ve selected audio interviews for the next two issues that observe and honor those individuals who have publicly embraced something about themselves that isn’t always celebrated. Oct. 11 is especially remembered as the anniversary of the 1987 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. Raissa Reis was class president, she had traveled throughout Europe, and was everyone’s best friend- she had everything in the palm of her hand on the outside. But high school brings about identity and pressure to be oneself. Although she might have appeared calm on the outside, on the inside, she was filled with confusion and panic. Kat Hong interviews Raissa. Tune in to hear how happy she is today. Ella Jayes interviews Armand de La Torre on the expectations and stereotypes of a sexual minority, a lifestyle many people don’t understand or agree with. Armand encourages individuals to come out, despite any reservations that negative responses may arise. Tune in to hear Armand’s struggle and his rise above his negative environment.
