The men’s baseball team traveled to Provo, Utah last weekend to play a three-game set with Brigham Young University. The Dons (22-23, 14-7 WCC) went into the Cougars (21-19, 11-7 WCC) house looking to improve their winning record but found themselves on the wrong side of a sweep. As spring wraps up and the season winds down, USF is in the fight for a WCC championship. Even after starting the season on a ten game losing streak, the San Francisco Dons find themselves atop the WCC alongside Pepperdine and San Diego with only six games remaining in conference play. At the start of the season the Dons set their sights on a WCC championship, a goal that looked unattainable after a 0-10 start. But after the preseason hunch was blown away by the start of conference play, USF was bound together by a seemingly untouchable starting staff and overall consistent production throughout the starting lineup and contributing bench players. The San Francisco Dons (22-19, 14-4 WCC) walked into San Diego just one game behind the Toreros, but after sweeping San Diego and winning 11 out of their past 12 games, San Francisco finds themselves on top of the WCC. Grant Goodman
Grant Goodman is a Sophomore pitcher who is currently sidelined from a recent Tommy John surgery. After an impressive freshman year, one of Goodman’s biggest accomplishments was getting drafted in the 36th round last year, “it’s something I’ll always remember even if I stop playing baseball.” He looks up to Matt Harvey, Goodman says, “especially after my injury and how he (Matt Harvey) has bounced back and how he goes about his life…he’s someone who motivates me.” Goodman, a business administration major, says his favorite hip hop artist is J-Cole, and his favorite movie is “The Graduate.” Coming from Burlingame High School, he hopes to bounce back from his injury and continue to succeed at USF.
